But that was a long time ago, I left the studio for other projects and I haven't tested this newer version so I can't confirm or comment on any specifics at all. No worries, any time! I actually worked on Disco myself as well. Ship first, optimize + localize etc later if the game is a success and pays for it. Game is already a success, now there's money and time to tweak these things. I think the devs here made the right choice though.
DAY OF DEFEAT FPS MAC PC
It's better to ship an unoptimized game that at least runs on someones PC instead of never shipping at all. You need to cut corners somewhere to ship a game in any reasonable amount of time and money. It's always very down to the wire and they're doing the best they can. (not saying you were spreading it or thinking of it at all though.) I've worked on a bunch of games, I've never met a lazy dev on a successful game.

In badder gaming circles there's this bad rumour of "lazy devs" going around. Usually still a bunch of bugs in there (that people even know about, I'm not talking about unfound bugs), a lot of features the designers wanted not yet added etc. They are completed with budgets time and money wise overdue and long spent, devs stressed out etc. Speaking in the indie to high class indie field: Most games are usually "barely" shipped as is. Also there are a bunch of different types of potatoes out there making testing for it even more difficult. #lowendgaming OR browser-based access Īm gamedev: It's really difficult and takes a bunch of resources to optimize + make sure a game runs on potatoes.
